Asterix, The Gaul – Who’s Who?

I now move up the ladder & diversify on my reading with my son; from our very own beautiful Amar Chitra Kathas to now picking up the Asterix series ?

Every night as we go to bed, we try to pick one of these little treasure books, Indian or otherwise…it’s always been new learnings & new thoughts

Coming back…as I put down my 2nd Asterix comic yesterday night, got some rolling thoughts on the characters in the series & on the parallel we can draw to our Investing life

Anyone with a reasonable know-how in the series will be able to relate…

At a MACRO level

The Gauls the unconquerable Stock Market

The Romansalways bruised & battered Investors

As the Gauls keep drinking the secret magic potion from their druid, so do markets keep getting their magic momentum unbeatable bull phases from time to time?

Now, to some micro tagging of the main characters…

Asterix -The hero, a shrewd little warrior who’s sometimes cunning but a very sharp thinker – there are just a few Asterix(s) in the investing world

Don’t even try to be one, especially without the help of the magic potion?

Obelix – The inseparable friend of Asterix who never needs the magic potion because he fell into a pot of it as a child – this is Index investing – an inseparable friend from the Index you just fell into the index pot – Quite a Strong fellow

Dogmatix – Obelix’s companion for life & the only canine ecologist – ah, a nice little bit of ESG investing (market leaders with the Environment, Social & Governance tag)…and I don’t fully love him ?

Getafix – the druid without whom the Gauls can never win – the magic potion which has the secret ingredients like “PATIENCE + LONG TENOR + DISCIPLINE + Some basic UNcommon sense”, without which our own Asterix or the Gauls will find it difficult to win over the Roman investing market

Cacofonix – think’s he’s a genius and everyone respects him as long as he doesn’t speak or open his mouth – who can we place here ?? – probably, all the social & regular media they’re good as long as they’re silent ?

Finally…

Julius Ceaser – the Emperor of Roman empire who always plots to conquer the Gauls but miserably fails – each individual investor being the emperor of his own empire, always tries to conquer the market called the “Gaul Village”, but miserably fails and gets beaten left right & center every time

That’s my own little Asterix series for you ?
